GNU/Linux Beginners Guide | Section 2: Install (Old)
Note: As of 15/4/2025, this section is out of date with the release of Fedora 42 changing the installer. If you are using the latest version of Fedora (which you most likely are) than please return to the updated version of section 2. This page will be kept until Fedora 41 goes end of life.
In the last section, you created bootable Fedora install media. Now it is time to install the operating system to your drive.
Step #1A: Click on the "Welcome to Fedora" window (if you are still in the quick settings, you can click outside of it's area to get out)

Step #1B: Click on the blue "Install Fedora" button:

Step #2A: You should see this. You can test your language settings and keyboard here. Once you are ready, click "Continue" on the bottom right:

Step #3A: You should see a screen like this. You will need to configure your drive's internal partitions. Under system, click "Installation Destination"

Step #3B: Click twice to select than check your main drive that you will be installing Fedora on. Ensure that the drive is selected and there is a check mark on it.

Step #3C: Click on the "Done" button in the top left

Step #3D: The installer will probably prompt you to reclaim space, click on the "Reclaim space" button

Step #3E: You will be brought here, click on "Delete All" (the guide will assume you intend to solo boot Fedora) and "Reclaim space" afterwards
Note: If you intend on dual booting and did not make additional space for Fedora before the installation, you can do so here. [WARNING: This is risky and may lead to data corruption. Back up everything important before doing this!]

Step #3F: You should now be brought back here. Click on the blue "Begin Installation" button. [WARNING: Clicking "Begin Installation" will wipe the drive that you have selected. There is no turning back, ensure that you have EVERYTHING IMPORTANT backed up before doing this!]

Step #4A: Fedora will now modify your disks and start installing to your system. Sit back and relax, this might take a while.

Step #5A: You have installed Fedora Workstation on your computer. You can now restart your system.

Complete! You can now continue to the next section!
